Won't someone please think of the children?
The kids have only just broken up from school and my TV screen is full of adverts for school uniforms and my supermarket is stocked to the ceiling with back-to-school necessities.
Is this not a bit cruel?
I mean, when we as adults take a holiday, how would we like to be continuously reminded from the moment we step out of the office door that the holiday will soon end and the grindstone sits there waiting for us to return?
I think it should be banned.

Completely agree. If I had to spend my holidays seeing garish "Back to work!" displays in shop windows everywhere, complete with pictures of smilingly beautiful office drones in new suits, enjoying their desperate attempts to access the shared server, then I'd be pretty pissed off.
Tangentially, I've already had two charity Christmas gift catalogues come in the post...
(BTW, mind if I put a link to you on my blog?)

Surely the point of the ads is to remind the adults that they'll soon be shot of the little blighters, and thus CHEER THEM UP?
dearieme, are you suggesting kids can be a pain in the arse? controversial surely?
Tom - I would be most honoured to be linked to on your blog and am more than happy to return the favour.
I haven't been to school in seven years but Back To School (is that an order?) adverts still make a flicker of sadness flicker through me.
No more late nights. No more running around barefoot. No more play fighting on the lawn. [sigh]
How long does it take for Pavlovian responses to fade?
flicker of sadness flicker through me?
I need an editor.
I haven't been to school in fifteen years and I still worry about the homework I've got left to do on a Sunday night.
